Itinerary

8:30 AMDeparture from Tirana

Join us for an exciting day trip as we leave Tirana at 8:30 AM. In under an hour, we’ll arrive in the charming city of Kruja, a place full of history and vibrant culture.

First StopTraditional Bazaar of Kruja

Our adventure begins at the heart of Kruja’s traditional bazaar. Think of it as a lively open-air market where the warmth of local hospitality meets beautiful handicrafts. This vibrant space, full of colors, local artisans, and intricate souvenirs, will transport you to the past. You’ll have the chance to chat with friendly locals who will share the rich history of their crafts. After browsing, we’ll enjoy a short break at a cozy local family bar. Here, you’ll see firsthand how the people of Kruja have lived and worked over the years.

Second StopThe Castle of Kruja

Next, we head uphill to the impressive Castle of Kruja. This fortress is not only a stunning sight but also a symbol of Albanian resistance during the Ottoman era. Here, we’ll learn about the 25-year-long struggle led by the national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg. The castle also served as the center of the first Albanian state, “Principata e Arberit,” since the 12th century. During the tour, we’ll visit the Bektashi Tekke, the Turkish Hamman, and both the Ethnographic Museum and the Skanderbeg Museum within the castle walls.

Third StopEthnographic Museum of Kruja

Our next stop is a fascinating journey into the daily life of Kruja’s past at the Ethnographic Museum. Housed in a unique 17th-century home, this museum vividly brings to life the traditions, lifestyle, and customs of Albanian families from centuries ago. Divided into two sections, the museum features displays on local crafts, agriculture, and home life, offering a glimpse into the vibrant culture of Kruja.

Fourth StopMuseum of Skanderbeg

Dedicated to Albania’s legendary hero, Skanderbeg, this museum takes us back in time to understand his pivotal role in Albanian history. Located in a building from the Communist era, it offers a fascinating look at the way Skanderbeg’s legacy was celebrated and portrayed during this period.
